There are a number of scholarship opportunities currently available for South African students to undertake studies, research and exchanges in other countries. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) coordinates several such scholarships, while others are managed by other international, national and provincial departments or government agencies.

Scholarships are for South African citizens and require a commitment to return to South African upon completion of studies.

CARIBBEAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP 2018

    The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) is an educational institution of choice for higher learning, training, research and consultancy in the Western Hemisphere. Originally established to train professional seafarers, the university has extended its reach globally and is today recognized as a centre of excellence for tertiary maritime and logistics education in the Caribbean. It is a home of world class logistics and industry leaders.

    The CMU is offering tuition-fee only scholarships to South African students to study towards Bachelor's of Science degrees in Cruise Shipping and Marine Tourism and Bachelor's of Engineering degrees in Industrial Systems. THAILAND: International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP)-2018

    Thailand International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP) was introduced in 2000 as a framework in providing postgraduate scholarships for developing partners. Believing that knowledge sharing is an important pillar of South-South Cooperation, TIPP offers opportunities for Thailand and its partners to exchange their experiences and best practices that would contribute to long-term and sustainable development for all. Aiming at sharing Thailand's best practices and experience to the world, the AITC training courses and the TIPP scholarships focus on development topics of our expertise which can be categorized under five themes namely; Food Security, Climate Change, Public Health, other topics related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and "Sufficiency Economy Philosophy" or SEP which Thailand is proud to introduce as the highlighted theme. SEP has been added with an aim to offer an insight into our home-grown development approach which is the key factor that keeps Thailand on a steady growth path towards sustainable development in many areas.

POLAND: The Ignacy Łukasiewicz Scholarship Programme 2018


  • Programme outline

    The Ignacy Łukasiewicz Scholarship Programme was implemented as part of the “Polish Aid” programme and is intended for the following developing countries: Angola, Chile, Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Myanmar, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru, South Africa, the Philippines, Senegal, Tanzania, and Vietnam. The aim of the Programme is to support the socio-economic development of these countries.

JAPAN: MEXT Scholarships for 2019

  • Programme outline

    The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program in 2019.

    The scholarship is open to research, undergraduate, specialized training college and Teacher Training students.
