Some of these opportunities may not be specifically for South Africans (they could be open for anyone), they may be partially funded or fully funded and they may be offered by institutions or other agencies. You will need to explore the links and the information available to see if you are eligible and interested in applying for any of the numerous opportunities.

International students in Switzerland interested in scholarships can get them from the Swiss government, Swiss Universities, or other organizations. Each year, the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships for international post-graduate researchers in any discipline. This is done with the intention of promoting international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and 180 other countries. Applications normally close in December each year, and can only be submitted by fulfilling all the application requirements published in the annual call.

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), known for supporting international academic exchange, internationalization of universities and research institutions, has launched “Research in Poland” platform dedicated for foreign scientists and PhD candidates who are interested in pursuing scientific research.
The aim of the platform is to fulfil three key informational and promotional requirements:
1. Provide foreign researchers with key information concerning the Polish system of higher education and the organization of their stay in Poland;
2. Equip the researchers interested in pursuing their scientific careers in Poland with tools such as search engines enabling them to find: jobs/projects, grants, scientific events, so that they can find what is most relevant for them; and
3. Promote the achievements of Polish science and Polish scientists through the success story component.

Scholarships are available for full-fee paying international students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The scholarship is valued at up to NZ$10,000 for new international students and undergraduate applicants with overseas secondary and post-secondary qualifications, and postgraduate diploma and masters qualifications, excluding Research Masters and Business Masters.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, quality of the letter of application and the recommendation of an academic reference.

Study in Holland is an initiative of Nuffic, funded by the Dutch government. It is the starting point for getting a unique study experience in the Netherlands. The Chandigarh University offers Ambassador's Scholarships for International students interested in studying Bachelor's and Master's programmes.
As part of the Scholarship Scheme, the following are available:
1. First five students will be considered under 50% scholarship on tuition fee only.
2. Next three students will be considered under 75 % scholarship on tuition fee only.
3. Last two students will be considered under 100 % scholarship on tuition fee only.
To be eligible to apply for these scholarships, applicants must be citizen and a permanent resident of that country. Applications for the scholarships will need to be submitted to the embassy.

The DAAD is the world’s largest funding organization for the international exchange of students and researchers. Since it was founded in 1925, around two million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding.

Campus France is an agency of the French Ministries of European and Foreign Affairs and of Higher Education and Research. Its goal is to promote French Higher Education and facilitate academic exchange between French tertiary institutions and those in the rest of the world. The French Embassy in South Africa offers annual Master's level scholarships for South Africans to study in France. Cyprus universities are providing partial scholarships to eligible South African students applying for full-time, on-campus master's programmes.
European University Cyprus offers Bachelor's degree (in the School of Medicine) and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership scholarships. Scholarships cover 35% of the tuition for Master's degrees, and offer a financial relaxation plan for Bachelor's degrees.
Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine offers partial scholarships to cover 25% of the tuition fees for master's degrees in Molecular Medicine.
The University of Cyprus provides MBA scholarships for international students covering 50% of tuition fees.

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) offers fellowships to international students to pursue PhD studies at the Hong Kong (Clear Water Bay) or Guangzhou campuses. HKUST PhD programmes require a combination of coursework and independent research, with a major emphasis on research. All programmes are taught in English.

Are you an international student in search of scholarships to study in Canada, or a Canadian student who wants to fund your studies abroad? On the EduCanada website you will find numerous awards for international students and scholars in Canada, and for Canadians to study and conduct research abroad. These awards are offered by Canadian governments, foreign governments, non-governmental organizations and international organizations.
Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships – valued at C$50,000 per year for 3 years, applicants are assessed on Academic Excellence, Research Potential and Leadership – candidates are nominated by a Canadian institution, typically in November of each year. There are a total of 500 scholarship recipients at any given time, 166 per year. More information here.
Scholarships for African Students Studying in English
The University of Ottawa offers scholarships and bursaries annually including the Merit Scholarship, which is granted automatically to eligible undergraduate students.
African students who enrol in the following programmes in English are eligible for substantial scholarship awards:
- Faculty of Engineering: Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering;
- Faculty of Social Sciences: Sociology, Anthropology, International Development and Globalization, Conflict Studies, Public Administration;
- Faculty of Science: all programmes except Honours BSc in Biochemistry / BASc in Chemical Engineering (Biotechnology).
The eligibility criteria includes academic excellence, financial need, community engagement, extracurricular activities, among others.
