The call for applications for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Maria Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) flagship programmeis now open.

The MSCFP is offering scholarships to selected students studying towards a Master’s programmes in nuclear related fields at an accredited universities. Upon completion of the studies, students will then have an opportunity to pursue an internship related to their field of study for up to 12 months, facilitated by the IAEA.

The MSCFP aims to help increase the number of women in the nuclear field, supporting an inclusive workforce of both men and women who contribute to and drive global scientific and technological innovation.

Field of study

The programme supports young women studying in nuclear related fields relevant to the IAEA’s mission to advance the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear energy. 

Examples of nuclear related fields may include, among others:

  • Nuclear Engineering;
  • Advanced reactor designs;
  • Nuclear Physics and Chemistry;
  • Nuclear Medicine;
  • Isotopic Techniques;
  • Radiation Biology;
  • Nuclear Safety;
  • Nuclear Security;
  • Safeguards and non-proliferation; and 
  • Nuclear Law.

 Who can apply?

The Programme is open for students from IAEA Member States who meet the following entry requirements:

  • Female students from IAEA Member States;
  • Accepted by or enrolled in a master’s programme in a nuclear related field at an accredited university;
  • Preference will be given to applicants with an above average academic credentials (75% or above or GPA > 3.0 out of 4.0).

What the Scholarship offers

  • Up to €20 000 for tuition fees;
  • Up to €20 000 for living costs;
  • Internships;
  • Networking.

Please Note:

Successful candidates are advised to make financial provisions for expenses which are not covered by the scholarship.

Application process

Those who meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply using the IAEA MSCFP online application form.

The documents required in addition to completed online application form are:

  • Copy of the Passport/National ID;
  • Official acceptance/admission letter from university into the Master’s programme indicating the nuclear related field of study and duration of the programme;
  • Statement of tuition fees/confirmation of  tuition costs;
  • If applicable, documents about other scholarships you have for the master's programme for which you are seeking MSCFP support;

NOTE: All application documents must be submitted in English using the MSCFP online application form. If documents are submitted in original language please also include official translation in English. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
