The Embassy of France is offering scholarships to South Africans who wish to pursue Master’s or Doctoral studies at French higher education institutions, starting in academic year 2021.

Applications are open to all fields of studies.
Who can apply?
- Citizen and resident of South Africa;
- Under the age of 33 years old on 1st January 2021;
- Applicants must be eligible for admission to the chosen Master’s or Doctoral programme;
- Application for university admission at three French universities should take place at the same time as the scholarship application (admission letters or at least correspondence with the institutions will be required);
- Applications to French public universities are recommended since they have French government subsidised fees;
- French proficiency is not required, provided they are pursuing a study course in English and have the ability to conduct research in English.
Scholarship offer
- For Master’s degree, the scholarship will be granted for a duration between 10 and 22 months;
- For PhDs, the scholarship will be granted for a maximum duration of 3 years;
- The scholarship will only be granted for the periods spent in France;
- Social security, priority for accessing student housing, visa fee exemption and assistance offered by Campus France Paris;
- Annual tuition fees, not exceeding €5 000 per year;
- A round-trip airfare ticket;
- A monthly stipend towards living expenses;
- Accommodation aid;
- Co-funding opportunities are strongly encouraged to strengthen the collaboration between South African and French institutions and public and private sector.
