The University of Alberta (UAlberta) in Canada is offering various postgraduate (Master’s and PhD) programmes to international students who wish to study at UAlberta in 2021 and a wide array of awards and scholarships are available to assist in funding studies. Each programme has different opportunities, and will have to be explored individually.

Eligibility

 

The basic minimum entrance requirement established for all graduates of South African universities is a minimum of Second Class standing, Division II, or a GPA of 60%, during the final two years of full time studies. 

 

Master’s Programme

Applicants must have completed a four year baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, from a recognised academic institution. (In South Africa, this is a Bachelor's with honours or equivalent NQF 8 qualification)

An admission grade point average of 3 on most 4-point grading systems or B on most letter grading systems based on applicant’s most recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent) is required. (About 65% in South Africa)

 

Doctoral Programme

Applicants must have completed a master’s degree, or its academic equivalent, from a recognised academic institution.

Degrees from outside Canada

Since degrees vary greatly from institution to institution and country to country, the University of Alberta will examine course content to establish equivalencies to a UAlberta degree.

 

English Proficiency

Applicants with degrees from South African universities do not need to provide evidence of English language proficiency.
