The Rhodes Scholarships, the preeminent and oldest global scholarships programme in the world, are for post-graduate, full-time studies at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Online applications are invited from outstanding young graduates who excel academically; demonstrate leadership skills and are committed to making a difference in the broader community, both locally and internationally.

What is included in the scholarship?

 

The Rhodes Scholarship fully covers two years of study and most of the graduate’s expenses in Oxford, including:

- Oxford University tuition fees.

- A monthly living allowance/stipend (to cover accommodation fees and living expenses in a College and pocket money).

- One return air flight (SA-UK-SA) per scholarship.

- Financial assistance with Student Visa and health insurance costs for the duration of the scholarship.

- Superb wrap-around support and an in-house Character, Service and Leadership Programme.

 

The Trust does not provide financial assistance for undergraduate degrees; or to postgraduate students who are studying at other universities in the UK or elsewhere; or to students who have not gone through the formal selection process for the Rhodes Scholarships in Southern Africa.

 

Who can apply?

 

Graduates in the selected Southern African constituency (South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and eSwatini).

- Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at the University of Oxford.

- Must be younger than 25 years of age when they commence their studies at Oxford on 01 October 2022.

- Candidates who have passed their 25th birthday on 01 October 2022, must have completed their first undergraduate degree within the last 2 years, i.e. after 1 October 2020; and may not have reached their 28th birthday on 01 October 2022.

- Candidates who have completed an MBBCh or an MBChB degree, may not have passed their 28th birthday on 1 October 2022.

Application process

 

Applications for the Rhodes Scholarships can only be submitted using the online application system at http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/scholarships/apply.

 

Applicants MUST submit the following documents with the application:

- A certified copy of your birth certificate.

- A certified copy of a valid passport or ID document.

- An official transcript from the college or university at which you are studying, or have studied, showing grades achieved (to date).

- A certified copy of your South African National Senior Certificate (NSC).

- Certified copies of your degree certificates.

- Details of any employment or enterprise you have undertaken during your studies or thereafter.

- A full curriculum vitae which should include details about academic qualifications, prizes, scholarships, positions of leadership, employment positions, involvement in student, voluntary, community or political activities and any cultural, musical or sporting accomplishments. This should not exceed two A4 (12pt font size) pages in length.

- A head-and-shoulders colour photograph (jpg format).

- A personal statement of no more than 1,000 words.
