The Government of Colombia is offering scholarships to South Africans to pursue postgraduate studies from the second semester of 2022 in public and private Colombian higher education institutions. The programme is coordinated by the Colombian Institute of Education Credit and Technical Studies Abroad (ICETEX).

Who can apply?

 

       -  Be a foreign citizen;

       -  Not have Colombian nationality, or not resided in Columbia the last 6 months prior to applying for the scholarship;

       -  Applicants must present the Certificate of Migratory Movements, with a date no greater than 30 days at the time of application;

       -  Must not have any marital or de facto relationship in Colombia;

       -  Not having started postgraduate studies in Colombia;

       -  Not having been a beneficiary of ICETEX through the Beca Colombia programme;

       -  Not older than 50 years;

       -  Have an average of 4.0 out of 5.0 in undergraduate studies;

       -  Have a professional, undergraduate, or graduate degree in any area of knowledge;

       -  Have admission to at least between one to three postgraduate programmes found in the Academic Offer Catalog 2022-2. In case of applying to Spanish courses, the admission of the Institution offering the Spanish course will be suspended;

       -   Have good physical and mental health, certified by a doctor;

       -   Present the certificate of the Spanish language proficiency test (DELE or SIELE), which must have a minimum B2 level or another certificate that supports the level of Spanish language

What the scholarship offers

 

     -   Tuition fees;

     -   Health insurance in Colombia;

     -   Courtesy visa fees;

     -   Monthly allowance;

     -   Installation costs (500,000 pesos equivalent to R2029);

     -   Incidental grant;

     -   Stipend for books and materials (500,000 pesos equivalent to R2029)

 

Note: Applicants will need to make provision for the admission costs established by the Colombian higher education institutions to which they wish to apply. In addition, applicants will need to provide for all other costs not covered by the scholarship.

 

 

Application process

 

All applications must be submitted on the ICETEX platform accessed from the website: https://internacionalizacion.icetex.gov.co/.

 

Application documents must be accompanied by the following documents (all documents must be attached to the application platform):

 

     -   Letter of preadmission or final admission from the university;

     -   Letter of Academic Recommendation:  This letter must be issued by an academic at the university where you completed your undergraduate studies and must be dated 2022;

     -   Certificate of Migratory Movements of the last year, with a date no older than 30 days at the time of application;

     -   Certificate of undergraduate or graduate transcripts;

     -   Essay;

     -   Copy of valid passport;

     -   Copies university degrees or diplomas;

     -   Resume or CV;

     -   Health Certificate may not be older than thirty days at the time of application;

     -   Professional Experience Certificate.

 

As the scholarships are awarded annually, scholarship holders who attend academic programmes longer than 12 months must request renewal from ICETEX each year, for the continuity of the corresponding study programme.

 

The renewal will be subject to compliance with the requirements established by ICETEX, including:

       -   Renewal request letter;

       -   Certificate of grades with accumulated average of the programme (at least 4.0/5.0 - A to A+ grade);

       -   Experience report signed by the tutor or director of the academic programme;

       -   Certificate from the University stating the current enrolment and the duration of the current academic programme.

 

Each candidate must personally apply for admission to postgraduate programmes directly with participating higher education institutions or universities.

 

 

Important dates:

 

Closing of the 2022-02 Call: 28 June 2022

Evaluation and selection of candidates: From June 29th to July 1st

Email notification to candidates about selection and non-selection: 15 July 2022

Scholarship acceptance process by those selected: From July 15th to the 18th

Start of studies in Colombia: Between the fourth week of July and the first week of August
