The Chinese Government is inviting applications for the Youth of Excellence Scheme of China - Master Programme (YES CHINA) for the academic year 2023 - 2024.

China Scholarship Council has implemented the YES China Programme to train future leaders in global governance who have a global perspective, superior comprehensive quality, outstanding leadership, and a multicultural background. 

total of 200 applicants from throughout the globe will be selected and accepted into the YES Programme this year, which is one-year, fully funded Master's programme taught in English.

Who can apply?

  • South African citizens in good health both physically and mentally;
  • Not older than 45 years of age;
  • Must be in a possession of a Bachelor’s or higher degree;
  • Must have at least 3 years’ work experience, some educational or professional experience in a field related to the Master’s programme applied for;
  • An applicant must fall into one of the following four categories:
    ① A government official at the division chief level (or equivalent level) or above;
    ② A senior manager of an institution or enterprise;
    ③ An administrator of a university or scientific research institution;
    ④ Those who have relevant employment or internship experience in international organizations.
  • All the registration-related information, including personal data, the admission date, and important details, must be included in the pre-admission letter provided by the institution. It cannot include any information regarding having received or having promised to receive scholarships from the Chinese government.

  • The programmes lasts for a year;
  • Certain programmes adhere to the "1+1" paradigm,
  • In the first academic year students must complete their dissertation preparations while working on their basic course work and conducting research in Chinese institutions.
  • In the second academic year candidates must complete their dissertations based on research and practical experience while working in their home countries during the second academic year before leaving for China to defend them as required by the universities;
  • The successful completion of the defense will result in the awarding of a degree. 

What the Scholarship offers

  • Exempted fees: tuition and internship fees;
  • On-campus accommodation;
  • Living allowance;
  • Once-off settlement subsidy after registration;
  • Comprehensive medical insurance;
  • One-way air ticket to China upon registration and a one-way air ticket back from China to the student’s home country after completion of studies.

Application process

STEP 1: Before applying, candidates must at least have pre-admission letter from one of the 72 subprogrammes.

STEP 2: Applications and supporting documents should be submitted through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System at http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/login before 30 April 2023.

STEP 3: Fill in the correct Programme Category and Agency Number. 

Programme Category should be Type A for "Scholarship Type", Agency code is 1563 and applicants need to select "Youth of Excellence Scheme of China".
