The Republic of Türkiye is inviting applicants to apply for the Turkish Language Programme for Public Officials and Academics (KATIP).

KATIP is a comprehensive fellowship programme for foreign public officials, diplomats, lecturers, and researchers who wish to learn Turkish and to get familiar with Türkiye. The programme is aimed at contributing towards the creation of communication networks which will serve for personal development of relations between Türkiye and fellow countries. The language programme offers additional opportunities for one to immerse themselves in the Turkish culture and all that it offers through seminars, workshops on classical Turkish arts and traditional sports activities, cultural trips around Türkiye.

The programme is based in Ankara. The language courses start from A1 level of Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Successful participants will receive B2 level Turkish language certificate at the end of the programme.

Who can apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be public officials who have worked at a relevant institution for at least 3 years and preferably hold a Master/PhD degree;
  • Be Lecturers and Researchers who are in possession of a Master/PhD degree and are currently employed at university/research centres;
  • Be under the age of 40 years as of the 1st January 2024;
  • Have a proficiency of the English language;
  • Not reside in Türkiye;
  • Not have previously benefitted or be currently benefiting from other Türkiye Scholarship programmes;
  • Candidates with advanced level Turkish Language proficiency will not be considered;
  • 80 percent attendance is mandatory for classes, seminars and other events.

Fields of Study

Language Programme (Turkish). The scholarship programme runs for 8 months, starting in November 2024 and ending in July 2025.

What the scholarship offers

  • The scholarships are awarded for a period of eight months;
  • A monthly stipend of 14.000 TRY;
  • Roundtrip airfare tickets;
  • Accommodation expenses;
  • Cost of all the trips and cultural activities during the programme;
  • The financial support will be reduced by 20% for the participants who fail the level exams;
  • If the participant continues with class absenteeism or is unsuccessful in their exams, support provided to the participant will be cancelled and the amount of support will be recovered from the participant.

There is no health insurance included in the scholarship offer, and therefore successful candidates will need to make provision for the health insureance and all other expenses not covered under the scholarship.
